General Contribution
As your not-for-profit blood center, we graciously accept both restricted and non-restricted gifts. These gifts enable us to further our life-saving mission, enhance donor experiences, and continue to grow programs that work in concert with local physicians to care for our area patients. An unrestricted contributions allow INBC to direct the funds to wherever the need is greatest. These needs can change from year to year, even month to month, and these gifts enable INBC to achieve our mission to save lives by providing blood and services to support transfusion and transplantation medicine in the Inland Northwest.
You can make a tax-free IRA gift today!
This unique opportunity ends December 31, 2011
Thanks to extended charitable IRA legislation, individuals 70 ½ and older can make direct, tax-free gifts of up to $100,000 from a traditional IRA to Inland Northwest Blood Center (INBC) to help support our life-saving mission. While the rollover amount does not qualify you for a charitable income tax deduction, you won’t have to realize it as taxable income. Additionally, funds rolled over will count toward your required minimum distribution in 2011.- The financial contribution must be directly transferred from IRA accounts to INBC (contributors should ask their IRA custodians for special forms to make these requests).
- For individuals who have not yet taken their IRA Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) they may partially or wholly satisfy that requirement through an IRA gift made by December 31, 2011.
- These contributions do not qualify donors for an additional charitable income tax deduction; not being taxed on the withdrawal is worth even more than a standard charitable deduction.
- Only standard IRAs and Roth IRA accounts qualify under this law; other retirement accounts such as 401(k), 403(b), SEP, KEOGH, and SIMPLE IRA plans cannot be used to make an IRA gift.
- Donors of IRA gifts will receive no personal benefits from this gift nor are they available for planned gifts such as charitable remainder trusts or gift annuities.
- Your spouse can also make a separate IRA gift of up to $100,000.
This gift option is a good option for contributors who:
- hold assets in their IRAs that they do not need;
- would like to make a large one-time gift;
- are subject to the 2% rule that reduces itemized deductions;
- do not itemize; or
- plan to leave part or all of their IRA to INBC in their estate.
