Although this number is slightly less than our goal of getting 1,300 donors through the door, we are still able to help a total of as many as 3,300 people with the donations that we collected, as blood can be separated into multiple components to assist multiple people.

Winners of our prize drawings for items such as Mariner’s tickets and a hotel stay, fair passes, Shock tickets, Indians tickets and more will be announced to donors next week.

20th Annual T-Shirt Design Revealed

Come get your free summer T-shirt and see our 2010 design! The annual INBC Blood Donor Awareness Summer T-shirt Campaign runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend, with a goal of reminding donors that the need for blood and platelets does not take a holiday during the summer months.

Why is this program so important?

Blood Centers throughout the nation see a decrease in donations during the summer months. This is largely due to many people going on vacation during the summer and because high schools and colleges are out of session and don’t hold mobile blood drives.

* Special thanks to our 2010 Spokane and Lewiston area Summer t-shirt sponsors that help to make this program a reality.

Wal-Mart Helps INBC’s National Marrow Donor Program to Save Lives!

Inland Northwest Blood Center’s (INBC’s) National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) has been awarded $40,000 by Wal-Mart’s Washington State Giving Program to pay the registration fee to get 1600 new potential donors into the National Marrow Donor Program’s Be The Match RegistrySM.

Every year, thousands of people are diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma and over 70 other life threatening diseases that can only be treated by healthy bone marrow from a genetically matched donor. Only three out of ten patients find a match in their family. The rest must turn to the NMDP’s Be The Match RegistrySM to find a caring stranger who is willing to be their donor.

Each of us has the unique power to save a life, but donors must be registered so that patients can find their match. Sadly, the general public is not aware of how easy it is to join the Be The Match RegistrySM and how 15 minutes of their time can be the start of a life-changing journey!

How to Help:

  • Sponsor a donor registration drive. Join the hundreds of businesses, schools, and other organizations across the country that sponsor drives every year.
  • Engage your community.  Spread the word that now is the time to make a difference! Encourage people you know to join the registry!

Battle of the Badge heats up in Spokane Valley...

With one solid month of competition under their belts, members of both the  Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Office and the Spokane Valley Fire Department are celebrating the fact that they have helped to save lives.

This friendly blood drive rivalry, hosted by the Inland Northwest Blood Center and spanning the month of May, is all about getting as many blood donations from each of the departments as possible and ultimately saving lives.

This annual competition is dubbed “Battle of the Badge” and pits Spokane Valley Firefighters against members of the Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Office, with the winner getting the highest number of blood donations in their respective category.

“All of these donors are life-savers in my eyes,” said event organizer and Recruitment Coordinator, Jennifer Kreuziger.  The winner of “Battle of the Badge” will be announced live on the radio on July 2nd.

EWU Football Players Make it a Priority to Give Back at INBC

More than 40 Eastern Washington University Football players, led by pre-med major Chris Thomas, donated blood at the Inland Northwest Blood Center’s Regional Headquarters on April 1st.

This is the team’s second trip to INBC in less than a month.  The team initially came to join INBC’s bone marrow registry, in early March. The players say they are always looking for ways to give back to the community each month and thought coming to INBC, and registering to become marrow donors was the ideal way to make a difference.

After the marrow registry, Offensive Lineman Chris Thomas says he wanted to do more to make a difference in the Inland Northwest and says he knew he could accomplish this with the Inland Northwest Blood Center.

Thomas partnered with INBC to coordinate a football team blood drive. More than 40 EWU football players and one coach donated blood and attracted media attention from all of the local television stations.  EWU team members say they plan to continue their donations with INBC throughout the summer and into next year.

Donating blood only takes about 45 minutes from start to finish and registering to become a marrow donor through the National Marrow Donor Program at INBC is as easy as a quick swab of your month.

Chris Thomas, the player leading this donation initiative, is a senior-to-be from Sumner, Washington and earned honorable mention All-Big Sky Conference honors this past fall. Visit GoEags.com for more information on the EWU football team and their partnership with INBC.
